I really enjoyed this piece Mary! I like all the different arguments you present, and I think it probably also changes for each person and in each chapter of life for how they best get their ideas. For me in this chapter of my life, my ideas flow best at bed time. Right after I've stretched and turned off the lights. I lie down and have some really great reflections.
Thank you for sharing Adele, me too! Sometimes I really have to force myself to knock it off and go to sleep because it is such a fertile time. I know some people find that space on the other end of sleep too, if they don't have to jump right out of bed when the alarm sounds.
I was going to write to you on another note: in an alumni newsletter from Brown University I learned that the medical school offers a course in medical illustration for med students!! To wit:
"The Introduction to Medical Illustration course at Brown is grounded in a simple principle: “All doctors draw.” That’s according to Dr. Francois Luks, a professor of surgery, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology at the Warren Alpert Medical School who has been teaching the popular class for more than a decade. Offered in collaboration with the Rhode Island School of Design, the course examines how visual communication — especially detailed, scientifically accurate illustration — supports medical education and patient care, from training future physicians to explaining procedures to patients. Through lectures, demonstrations, workshops and direct clinical observation, undergraduate students learn foundational techniques such as rendering light, shadow, volume, perspective and texture."

Pure magic, Mary. You constantly amaze me. This one bears rereading, more than a once.
Lauren I think you singlehandedly keep me writing these! Thank you as always, really.

This is fantastic Lauren!! And perfectly fits with what I was thinking of writing about this month. Thank you thank you for sharing!
